An excellent book on the Eucharist
This is a wonderful book, which is at the same time both challenging and encouraging. The challenge is that it makes us realise how easy it is to take the Eucharist for granted, how we can slip into a routine where going into the Eucharistic presence in church, for example, can become little more than a routine for us. But at the same time it is encouraging, in that it makes us realise God’s unfathomable love for us in the Eucharist, a love which most of the time we just don’t appreciate. There are some marvellous ideas in the book, but one which stood out for me was of God’s love as the waves of the sea, continually crashing onto our hard, stony hearts, which Fr Dajczer visualises as being like rocks on a seashore being pounded by the waves. That’s a very powerful image of exactly how resistant we are to God’s grace most of time. Reading this book will hopefully improve the situation!
