The Skaparis at Easter Promo from Simon Robertshaw.

Internationally acclaimed orchestra the Skaparis will make their live return in April 2021 for a spectacular night in the beautiful setting of The Lighthouse Church, Salford, Manchester. Led by conductor and founder Simon Robertshaw, the Mancunian ensemble invite an online audience to join them at their debut livestreamed performance, and first live showcase since their 2018 tour alongside Gary Numan.

The vision of the 26-strong orchestra is to convey a powerful uplifting message of rebirth, regeneration and hope in the face of adversity. The programme includes 3 iconic pieces:Les Élémens by Jean Féry Rebel, Robertshaw’s orchestrated Violin sonata in G Major by Mozart (featuring his original composition of the 3rd ‘missing’ movement), and Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.

Rescheduled from April 2020, the Skaparis are doing everything possible to ensure their music can reach the masses, regardless of COVID. The professionally produced pay-per-view stream will be hosted globally at www.skaparis.uk, with multiple ticket tiers available at affordable prices. It will include multiple angles of the performance with high quality audio, as well as featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes content and interviews!

Tickets are on sale now, however, those subscribed to the Skaparis Patreon will have automatic access as part of their many perks. The audio from this stream will be captured in time as it will also be released on CD via Skaparis Records later on in the year, with more information to come.

Robertshaw states “As a promoter of music as well as a conductor, composer and arranger, I am very excited to be in a position to be able to perform with my orchestra, the Skaparis, for this performance on (Holy) Saturday, April 3rd at Easter 2021 at The Lighthouse Church, Manchester. We’re very fortunate that the management of The Lighthouse have allowed us to put on this concert. We are so very much looking forward to seeing our fans and audience members again - even if it is online - COVID won’t stop us! ‘Till Kreace Hvatvetna - To create is everything’.”

Despite being unable to perform to their usual avid, packed-out audiences, the Skaparis continue to find a way to adapt, proving once more they’re pushing the boundaries and expectations of orchestral music.

About The Skaparis:

“One of the founding tenets of the Skaparis is that it is a modern orchestra, able to morph in to any size with any genre of music depending on the project, creating completely different worlds and soundscapes.” – Simon Robertshaw

The Skaparis (taken from the old Norse phrase ‘Skapa’ meaning ‘to create’) was formed in 2016 by Robertshaw while he was studying conducting at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Hand-selecting some of the best performers at the renowned school, Robertshaw and his esteemed ensemble have skyrocketed into the public arena. They had their first professional collaboration within their first year with Classical Uproar, a dance/acid house collective with artists such as Alison Limmerick, Luke Neptune, Tameka Jackson (ex-Prince singer) Bekka Nightgeist and DJXTC. This led to the Skaparis’ TV debut and their slot at Leeds International Festival in 2018.

In November 2018, they were launched into an international spotlight as Robertshaw and the Skaparis Orchestra collaborated with the iconic electronic artist Gary Numan as they joined him on his UK tour. The 7-date showcase included a sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall, where they performed a 19-track-strong setlist of specially-arranged Numan songs, including ‘Metal’ and ‘Ghost Nation’. Their momentous feature in the remarkable live shows received strong praise from critics and fans alike as they gained a grand crossover of dedicated followers from across the globe. In September 2020, BMG released limited edition copies of the live footage from their joint performance at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on a three-disc coloured vinyl set, which sold out in just two days, conveying the significance of their collaboration.

In 2021, Robertshaw and the Skaparis Orchestra have big plans to continue this momentum, with ‘Skaparis At Easter’ being just a taste of what’s to come from one of Manchester’s most exciting and versatile ensembles.
